This fall has been an extremely busy! Teaching, mentoring, and public speaking have kept me busy. Making art is an essential part of my purpose, but another part of my mission is to instill a love of art in as many people as possible. And for fellow artists, I am dedicated to helping them find ways to making the creative life a reality. Soon, I plan to get back to the studio in the coming weeks.
NEW WORK I have some concepts I'd like to pursue. One direction is to make figurative studies of the spiritual body freeing itself from the physical body. For this approach, I want to experiment with blurred imagery ( influenced by Gerhard Richter), using reference photographs of a dancer I took some time ago. During the pandemic, I created three charcoal drawings on the theme of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE. I am intrigued by the dark romance of this disaster, so I would like to expand my exploration of the topic. Stay tuned!
PORTRAIT PAINTING I am making progress on the demo portrait of my husband I began during the "Realism in Portrait Painting” class at the Naperville Art League. I think it's beginning to look a lot like him. I enjoy taking progress pictures and sharing them. Can you see the difference?Another four session class begins on November 19. Call (630) 355-2530 to register.
COMMISSION Another exciting development in the studio is a commission I'm working on. It will be a 12" x 12" depiction of two children playing in the family’s den near the large windows that look out onto a garden vista. This patron wanted to commission a work of art that captures the specialness of the room and her children interacting with each other.
